Junior Achievement Volunteer Teaching Program

Saturday, July 5, 2008

I recently volunteered through my work to do the Junior Achievement Teaching Program.  I was assigned to Mr. Sandstrom's fourth grade class at Los Penasquitos Elementary School.  I taught them Business 101 for an hour a week,  five weeks total.  I have to say it was great!

If you have an opportunity to either volunteer through your work or by contacting Junior  Achievement directly it is very much worth your while.  Gives you a chance to see what it's like to be a teacher and gives you a chance to teach a classroom full of kids about important subjects.  I will do it next year again for sure.

So if you have a chance check them out it's definitely worth it.  It really shows you how hard teachers work, how valuable they are, and how much they need all the help and resources that we can possibly give them.  After all they teach our kids.

I do want to say thank you to all you teachers out there.  You have a tough job and i respect what you do.  I hope more people start taking the education of our children as seriously as they do and give them the help that most desperately need.

For more information on Junior Achievement this is their website, although your city might have their own, this is the home site.

John McCain Battles Teleprompter

Thinking About The Future

It seems John McCain is fighting battles on a couple fronts. One of them being his battle with the teleprompter. You would think even without the prompter you could get right or remember the word Lexington.

Could this be taken as he really doesn't care or mean what he says in his speeches? Seeing How the word he keeps flubbing has to do with a "New" energy plan that he cares so much about that he can't even say the name of it correctly? Multiple times even. I think so...

It's almost as if this isn't his idea at all and just a political move to get votes. If that's the case why remember the name of this plan, It's for votes and probably will never become reality so remembering the name is unimportant. Seems to me this is exactly what is happening...

McCain Battles a Nemesis, the Teleprompter

LAS VEGAS —Senator John McCain was performing relatively smoothly as he unveiled his energy plan. He managed to limit the mechanical hand chops and weirdly timed smiles that can often punctuate his speeches. He delivered his lines with an ease that suggested a momentary peace with his longtime nemesis, the teleprompter. (He relied on a belt-and-suspenders approach, with text scrolling down screens to his left and right, and on a big TV set in front of him.)

But when Mr. McCain, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, came to the intended sound bite of his speech — the part about reducing America’s dependence on foreign oil — he hit a slick.

“I have set before the American people an energy plan, the Lex-eegton Project,” Mr. McCain said, drawing a quick breath and correcting himself. “The Lex-ing-ton Proj-ect,” he said slowly. “The Lexington Project,” he repeated. “Remember that name.”

In a town meeting in Cincinnati the next day, Mr. McCain would again slip up on the name of the Massachusetts town, where, he noted, “Americans asserted their independence once before.” He called it “the Lexiggdon Project” and twice tried to fix his error before flipping the name (“Project Lexington”) in subsequent references.

Racist And Former Senator Jesse Helms Dies

Jesse Helms the Isolationist and Racist former Senator of North Carolina has died, he was 86. I am about as sad about this as I was when Strom Thurmond died, and that is not that much.

Not that I am happy to see him die, but he was a miserable man who should of never been an elected official. He was a Racist, Bigot, Homophobe who played on peoples fear to win elections.

Why we would celebrate this man in any way is beyond me. I'm not saying slam him in the media the day or days after he dies, But don't play him on TV like he was this great man that helped people. He was a divisive, hateful figure that was a Senator. That would be my eulogy for him.

China Going To The Moon ?

Friday, July 4, 2008
This story makes me think of H.G. Wells and the Time Machine. Why I think of him is he actually did patent plans for a Time Machine. He was not only a terrific Author but a true genius as well. Anyway in the Time Machine mining the moon for materials causes it to break apart. Thus ending most life on earth for a long while.

When I see stories of mining on the moon, and see it possibly coming to fruition, I think of H.G. Wells and his Time Machine and wonder if some of the legends are true. That he actually got the machine he patented to work, and he wrote about our future in his stories. Yes I know that could be considered "Out There", But it is possible. Anyway that's my thought provoker of the day. Next week we'll delve into the Sumerians.

Is Helium 3 Exploitation China's Hidden Lunar Agenda?

Earlier this year, shortly after Russia claimed a vast portion of the Arctic sea floor, accelerating an international race for the natural resources as global warming opens polar access, China has announced plans to map "every inch" of the surface of the Moon and exploit the vast quantities of Helium-3 thought to lie buried in lunar rocks as part of its ambitious space-exploration program.

Ouyang Ziyuan, head of the first phase of lunar exploration, was quoted on government-sanctioned news site ChinaNews.com describing plans to collect three dimensional images of the Moon for future mining of Helium 3: "There are altogether 15 tons of helium-3 on Earth, while on the Moon, the total amount of Helium-3 can reach one to five million tons."

"Helium-3 is considered as a long-term, stable, safe, clean and cheap material for human beings to get nuclear energy through controllable nuclear fusion experiments," Ziyuan added. "If we human beings can finally use such energy material to generate electricity, then China might need 10 tons of helium-3 every year and in the world, about 100 tons of helium-3 will be needed every year."

Bush Stimulus Really Stimulates

Ha Ha this is great...

President Bush Boosts Porn Industry With Economic Stimulus Plan, According to AIMRCo

NEW YORK, July 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- An unforeseen and surprising beneficiary of the Economic Stimulus Plan, a plan that George Bush contends will "boost our economy and encourage job creation," has surfaced this week. An independent market-research firm, AIMRCo (Adult Internet Market Research Company), has discovered that many websites focused on adult or erotic material have experienced an upswing in sales in the recent weeks since checks have appeared in millions of Americans' mailboxes across the country.

According to Kirk Mishkin, Head Research Consultant for AIMRCo, "Many of the sites we surveyed have reported 20-30% growth in membership rates since mid-May when the checks were first sent out, and typically the summer is a slow period for this market."

Jillian Fox, spokeswoman for LSGmodels.com, one of the sites reporting figures to AIMRCo, added, "In a June 15, 2008 survey to our members, thirty two percent of respondents referenced the recent stimulus package as part of their decision to either become a new member, or renew an existing membership."

The economic stimulus plan, which includes a check for up to $600 for individuals and $1200 for married couples (among other benefits), is the product of an agreement between House leaders and the Bush Administration, focused on reviving a struggling economy in the wake of a flagging economy.

Fox also added, "Getting more people to buy porn was probably the last thing Bush had on his mind when he came up with his 'stimulus package,' but we'll take it."

The Treaty Of Tripoli

I referenced this in a previous post and I think in today's times it is becoming very relevant. If you'll notice that is John Adams signature at the top. Somehow things have become twisted and I think it's important to look back at what the founders really had in mind. Not what that talking head on your radio or corporate news station tells you, or most politicians , or whomever, we.. or some of us have lost our way and have let fear distort our common sense. Sometimes it's good to go back and check your roots. I found some really good articles and sources on the subject also....

"Obama Declines Fist Bump From Boy" Story Is False

Wednesday, July 2, 2008
How this story was even started is beyond me. I mean there was video of it and yet most major news outlets ran with the story, Obama trying to be political dismisses boys request for fist bump, while in the meantime John McCain is out there contradicting himself on everything. Still think those BBQ's he throws still has no effect... He must have a lot of dirt on a lot of press people...

Here is the video of the supposed diss by Obama, which turns out was him saying no to signing his name in permanent ink on the boys hand.

John Mccain Full Steam Ahead On The "Double Talk" Express

How is it that John McCain can even still run on this whole Straight Talk theme? All he does is contradict himself, and sometimes on the same subject multiple times. He is dishonest pure and simple. Or he just can't remember what he says. Truth is he stands for nothing he says what will get him votes. Now this could be said of all politicians, but he takes it to an extreme. There will be tons more of this so I'm sure I will have plenty to complain about throughout the year.

Faith Based Initiatives

Tuesday, July 1, 2008
Obama is starting to piss me off. First the F.I.S.A. thing. Then he rebuked the comments by Wes Clark when they didn't need to be, basically bowing to the ridiculous claims of the McCain camp. Now he wants to carry on the Faith Based Initiative. Let me start by saying this, I am an atheist, But I feel everyone has a right to have their beliefs and everyone has a right to not have others beliefs shoved down their throat.

Separation of Church and State is KEY. Our founding fathers did this for a very good reason. This is not a Christian nation, and if you disagree then take a look at the Treaty of Tripoli, our tax dollars should not be used for religious reasons. Regardless of the religion, although I guarantee Muslims, Mormons or other smaller religions are not seeing any of that money. Regardless the embrace of this by Obama is disturbing, and I am interested in hearing more on his plans for this. Because if our tax dollars are being funneled into religious institutions regardless of what good they might do is just wrong and dangerous and a step closer to a Theocracy. Some right wing Republicans might want this, But not I or I hope not you.

There are other ways to help churches, Tax breaks charity's, so on. The answer though is not to use our tax dollars. Our Government has no place in our Religion, Bush has tried to reverse this and I hope that Obama puts an end to this, not expand it.

John McCain Doesn't Know The Price Of Gas

So he is really going to identify with our needs and problems right? Ha Ha Ha

John McCain Tries To Divert Attention From The Issues

This should come as no surprise to some, but John McCain, Knowing that he cannot compete when it comes down to the issues of concern. Is trying to keep everyone's attention focused on Wes Clark's comments and some of Jim Webb's. I guess he figures if he keeps the press busy by blowing those comments all out of proportion, They won't have time to ask him about the real issues. For one thing there is nothing to apologize for. Wes Clark rephrased the question into his answer. His answer was totally legit and did not call out McCain's patriotism or service record in the least. It is pathetic, so pathetic. The lengths that McCain and the Republicans have and will go to win is beyond comprehension sometimes. I really hope people are paying attention to this. Which is mostly why I post this. If I can enlighten even a couple people to news or news sources they were not aware of, Then I'm happy. Information is power. A power we all should have and wield with Authority.

Now some video...

William Bennett Is...

Monday, June 30, 2008
A Jackass...

Funny how every time they show the comment(Wes Clark), they never show the question Bill Schieffer asked in which he was the one that brought up John McCain being a pilot who was shot down. Wes Clark was just answering his question. It was a setup pure and simple. Then they can play the clip leaving out the question where bill sets him up with the topic and just show his answer. Wouldn't you know it, most news stations are doing exactly that. But on to why William Bennett is a Jackass...

Bush Congratulates Self & McCain For New G.I. Bill

I guess this shouldn't surprise me. You know the G.I. Bill that Jim Webb has been working on for years. The Bill that George Bush And John McCain both opposed. Well George Bush and John McCain took credit for it Monday. Yeah you heard that right, The Bill they BOTH opposed vehemently, They decided to take credit for. Anyone who thinks John McCain is honest or a Maverick or a Straight Talker, Think again. Here is some video...

Jim Webb gets a chance to respond to McCain taking credit...

Olbermann's Special Comment For Obama

Obama has said he will support the F.I.S.A. bill. I really disagree with this, and I know he is doing it because he is afraid how the Republicans will try and frame it. Like Keith says here though, they are going to go after him no matter what. Better to do the right thing and face pressure, than to do the wrong thing and still face pressure. I really hope he changes his mind on this, I can kind of see where he is going, But at the same time I do not think that bill should pass as is, with immunity. So I was glad to see a special comment on this. I support him, But he is not immune from criticism...

John McCain Will Not Fix The Housing Crisis

Why?

Because he cannot even fix the Housing crisis in his own home state of Arizona. He seems to have too many developer friends, and friends in lending companies to be effective. He even had a hard time selling his own "Mansion" things are so bad.

Among other things...

Obama Speech On Patriotism

Another great speech by Obama. I watched most of it before I went to work. Very good, I can't find video of it yet but when I do I'll post it. I have found the transcript

Update : John McCain has something to say about it already... Even though Obama always says that McCain is great American, McCain I guess is trying to play a little game on the subject.

Jackass...

Wesley Clark Was Right

Wesley Clark was 100% right about what he said about John McCain. Getting shot down does not qualify you to be President. It is sad and unfortunate but a requite for being President it is not. He did not have an executive position. He followed the orders, he did not give them at an executive level. All Wesley Clark was doing was pointing that out. The press however have a love affair with John McCain and immediately jumped on it. I do not think that is a gaffe or bad politics, I think it is the truth. If John McCain is going to use his time as a prisoner as his credentials, then that is now open for discussion.
